La carrera por los Oscars ha comenzado porque la Academia ha anunciado a los semifinalistas de diez categorías.

Quince películas cada una están avanzando en los concursos para el International Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Original Song y Music Score, además de las categorías de cortometrajes documentales, animados y de acción en vivo. Diez películas cada una avanzó hoy en las categorías de sonido, efectos visuales y maquillaje y peluquería.

Las listas cortas se esperan ansiosamente como una señal temprana de qué películas podrían estar recibiendo un fuerte apoyo en ciertos ámbitos de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas y que, por otro lado, están siendo ignoradas. Siempre hay algo que sorprende. Por ejemplo, el presunto líder Oppenheimer no hizo ese corte después de la reciente fuga de 20 semifinalistas en Visual Effects, por lo que al menos una lista publicada hoy no incluirá el logro histórico de Christopher Nolan mencionado. Por otro lado, estas listas pueden ser una señal para un concursante inesperado, aunque no incluyen categorías de marca como Película, Acting, Directing, Screenplay, Cinematografía, Editing, Production y Costume Design.

El año pasado, el eventual ganador de la película internacional y nominado a la mejor película All Quiet on the Western Front obtuvo cinco menciones en las listas cortas, incluyendo Sound, Visual Effects, Makeup & Hair y Original Music Score además de International Film. Fue nominado en todos los cinco y ganó dos de esos Óscar además de otras dos categorías que no están en la lista.

Las nominaciones para los 96 Premios de la Academia se anunciarán el martes, 23 de enero, y ABC transmitirá la ceremonia en vivo desde el Dolby Theater el 10 de marzo.
